HIP JOINTS – Lubrication of metal-on-metal hip joints – The effect of protein content and load on film formation and wear

PCS Instrument(s): EHD
Summary: This study used tribology to understand how protein content and load affect lubrication in metal-on-metal hip joints. γ-globulin formed thick, protective films and reduced wear. Film thickness increased with sliding but dropped sharply under high loads. Insights help improve implant design and predict performance, especially under misalignment or edge-loading.
